The smudge stick is more beneficial utilized when one has an understanding of the process when done with respect of the Heavens and the Earth.
The Intention For this particular intention we are asking help with our request from Divine, Divine’s loving Angels being of the Light and Nature’s Spirit of the Fire, Water, Earth in the form of the Herb Rosemary and Air for their assistance in purifying self, others, animals, the area in which you stand or the item in which you would like purified. In the beginning you may feel uncomfortable asking however it is needed to be said out loud. With smudge stick in hand you say, Divine, Divine’s loving Angels being of the Light and Nature’s Spirit of the Fire, Water, Earth in the form of the Herb Rosemary and Air please purify the (that which you have selected to be purified). Next you then light the smudge stick. I like to use match sticks due to lighters are not biodegradable. Some may own a loved heirloom lighter passed down that is refillable in which you have or was given to you as a gift. These are lovely treasures that may be used during the smudging. The smudge stick will start to exude the aromatic essence from the oils of the Herb Rosemary and smoke. You then may wave feathers that have been collected ONLY from a source in which the birds have give them up willingly with no harm, or your hands or simply the smudge stick treated as a wand of sorts. *Please be careful of any debris that may fall from the smudge stick catching anything on fire such as ones clothing or hair or leaving burn marks. You then always close saying thank you to Divine, Divine’s loving Angels being of the Light and Nature’s Spirit of the Fire, Water, Earth in the form of the Herb Rosemary and Air for their assistance once the smudging is finished. Once finished I use a pottery bowl that I have selected for smudging purposes only. I fill the bowl with tap water, rain water, or full moon water. Some may want to use ocean water. I place the smudge stick tip in the water to douse the flame. Then when completely out I take it out of the water to air dry for the next time smudging is needed. Personal Advice I collect fallen feathers that catch my eye everywhere I go and sterilize them for smudging purposes. Something you maybe already are doing. A fallen feather placed in sometimes the oddest of places is one of the ways that Divine, and Divine’s loving Angels being of the Light make themselves known to us. I like to keep my smudge supplies in a handmade pottery bowl purchased by me from a second hand store. The purchase is a form of energy exchanged. Where I purchase the handmade pottery bowl matters. The purchase contributes to the helping of recycling. I also contribute to the fact that whoever made the bowl in which I am using took their personal energy, time and resources to make the bowl. I thank the person although unknown.
